Second Day of the 30th AIDA World Championship
June 13, 2023 was the second day of the 30th AIDA World Championship and the Dynamic No Fins (DNF) competition.
Considered the purest of the freediving disciplines, during DNF the freediver swims horizontally underwater using only arm strokes and frog kicks while holding their breath for the longest possible distance without the assistance of propulsion aids, making it the most demanding of the pool freediving disciplines.
The results from the competition were amazing, with many athletes achieving new personal bests. However, the most exciting news was Julia Kozerska (Poland) breaking her own women’s AIDA World Record with a distance of 213m. This is also her seventh AIDA World Record. Julia was very humble when asked about her result, saying that she wasn’t sure if she would be able to achieve this distance today after working hard during yesterday’s Dynamic Bifins (DYNB) competition, but at the 200m turn, she decided she might as well go further.
Another surprise during the competition was Bevin Reynolds’ 180m dive, setting a new AIDA Continental Record for Africa. This is Reynolds’ first formal freediving competition ever and is an athlete to watch in the future.
