Heike Schwerdtner Sets World Record with 09:22 Static Performance

On May 4, 2025, Germany’s Heike Schwerdtner delivered a clean and composed 09-minute 22-second breath-hold in Static Apnea (STA) at the Stockholm Apnea AIDA STA Wars - CO₂ Strikes Back, a performance that now stands as a pending AIDA World Record, awaiting standard doping test results.
The attempt took place just one week after Schwerdtner performed a 09:17 static at a non-WR-status event, a result that surpassed her existing 09:07 world record from the 2024 AIDA Pool World Championship. That dive, although unofficial, demonstrated that she was on track for something exceptional.
At the Stockholm event, Schwerdtner confirmed it.
Clocking in at 09:22, she has once again extended the record within her own name, provided the result passes the routine anti-doping protocol required for official AIDA recognition.
Performances like this are built on consistency, experience, and discipline. In static apnea, athletes must maintain absolute stillness and mental clarity while managing rising carbon dioxide levels and the urge to breathe. Schwerdtner has shown again that she is among the very best in the world at doing exactly that.
AIDA congratulates Heike on this outstanding result and will update the record status once confirmation procedures are complete.
