Corsica, France –The fourth day of the 33rd AIDA Depth World Championship was rescheduled from 9.09.2024 to 10.09.2024 due to unfavorable weather conditions. Yesterday’s competition was cancelled, and the men`s Constant Weight Bi-Fins (CWTB) event was rescheduled for today, September 10, 2024. Strong winds and swells brought colder water masses into the bay, creating more challenging conditions for the male athletes.

Constant Weight with Bi-fins (CWTB) is a freediving discipline in which the diver descends and ascends using only bi-fins (two fins, one on each foot) without assistance from any external equipment like sleds or propulsion devices. Bi-fins provide more control and stability but generally require more effort than a monofin to reach the same depth.

Technique is crucial, as the diver must optimize their body position, kicking technique, and breath-holding to minimize energy expenditure while descending and ascending. CWTB is considered one of the core competitive freediving disciplines, requiring a balance of strength, technique, and efficient use of oxygen.

The current men`s world record holder in Constant Weight Bi-Fins (CWTB) is Alexey Molchanov, competing as an Individual Neutral Athlete. He set the record at 123 meters during the 2023 AIDA World Championship in Limassol, Cyprus. Alexey announced a new world record attempt of 125 meters in bi-fins.

We are excited to share the results of today`s CWTB competition:

1. Alexey Molchanov, competing as an Individual Neutral Athlete, achieved an impressive dive of 125 meters, successfully defending his title as World Champion and breaking his own World Record. This marks Alexey`s seventh world record in the CWTB discipline since its introduction in 2019 and and the 35th world record of his career.

2. Andrey Matveenko, one of the world’s deepest freedivers competing as an Individual Neutral Athlete, claimed the silver medal with an impressive dive of 112 meters.

3. Petar Klovar, representing Croatia, reached 105 meters. Earlier in the championship, he secured the Gold medal in the Constant Weight No Fins (CNF) discipline on the second day of the competition.

Alongside the podium finishers, we are proud to announce that several national records were broken during today’s event. The athletes setting new records for their respective countries are:

The 4th day of competition brought together 31 male athletes from 23 countries, including competitors with extensive experience and last year Champions and newcomers from nations where freediving is gaining popularity. Their participation underscores the growing reach and inclusivity of the sport on the international stage.

The championship continues to deliver outstanding performances, and we look forward to more incredible achievements in the days to come.
