AIDA Disciplinary decision on sexual harassment

Published: 28/02/2022

Following an appeal to the AIDA DIsciplinary Committee decision, on 10 February, the AIDA Board finalized the decision to revoke the instructor status of Mr. Y (Korea) for 2 years starting from 15 January 2022.

This decision follows the sentence issued by Korean courts for charges of sexual harassment against a student.

The following arguments were taken into consideration:

  • On January 14, 2022, the Seoul Southern District Court found Mr. Y guilty and imposed the following sentence: “8 months in prison, 2 years of probation, 40 hours of sexual violence treatment classes, 80 hours of community service, and 3 years employment restriction orders”.
  • All correspondence from the complainant and the defender.

“This is a grave issue that must be addressed.” Said AIDA President Alexandru Russu. “AIDA does not condone this behaviour and takes all allegations of sexual assault and harassment within the association seriously. Upon certification, AIDA Instructors must adhere to the Code of Conduct, any non-respect of this code can result in a loss of status and dismissal from AIDA.”

Correction and apologies:

article updated on 20 February to replace "sexual assault" with "sexual harassement". The corect charge is sexual harassement.
